The Nudge: What To Do with a vintage, Japanese silk robe that your mother recently handed down to you?…
In the mid 1950’s my mother’s brother, who was in the service at the time, brought this satin robe home to her as a gift. The cobalt blue robe is in unbelievable condition, the quality of the fabric is excellent and it has barely been worn. Well, except for maybe when I played dress up as a young girl.
What To Do with it?… Well, I would never pack it away because it would never see the light of day. I wouldn’t sell it or give it away because of the sentimental value. So, wear it I must!
I love a style challenge. The robe is obviously the highlight, so I chose to pair an everyday pair of jeans and a white, ribbed tank top with it. I then added my vintage chandelier earrings and my Manolo Blahnik leopard sandals w/rhinestone buckles to pull the look together.
Where would I wear this? To have cocktails with friends on a Friday evening, to dinner with my husband on a Saturday night, to a casual, weekend party, or around the house.
Do you have something like this stored away that is waiting to be worn? If so, let it see the light of day. Wear it. You are guaranteed a-one-of-a kind look.
