The Nudge: I’m a very sentimental person and this post is a very emotional one for me. I value things that have deep personal meaning, like this army coat, worn by my father-in-law, George, a veteran of the Korean war. Do you have an article of clothing that holds special meaning for you? Wear it with love.
I made the decision to showcase his coat as a tribute to him and his service to our country. Interestingly, his birthday is July 4th. He used to tell a funny story that as a young boy, up to about age eight, he thought the fireworks every year happened because it was his birthday. If anyone deserved fireworks, it was George.
George was a true hero. He was seriously wounded in the war, received a Purple Heart, and for bravery and valor, received two Silver Stars and one Bronze Star. After George passed a few years ago, my mother-in-law, Pat, gave this beautiful jacket to Bryan, my eldest son. It is a treasure to our family.
George was a very good man, layered deep with integrity and loyalty. He was loved, admired and trusted by all that knew him. He taught us so much without saying a word. He was more than a war hero, he was an everyday hero. We miss you George.
