The Nudge: Everyone needs to hit the Refresh button every once in a while.
I thought I would do a little something different for this week’s post. I love to help my friends, and my clients, discover their individual styles. I do on-site and virtual styling, personal shopping, special event styling, closet edits, and help you shop your own closet.
This is my good friend Jane. I recently styled Jane for a party that she had at her home and this is the “AFTER refreshing her look” LOOK that she ended up wearing. Thank you Jane for being willing to be featured on Style Nudge. I look forward to the next time!!
I asked Jane to share her thoughts with you about the experience so here they are…
I’m one of many who is lucky enough to call Cherie a dear friend. My story behind this post took place last April when my husband and I threw a spring time cocktail party. The food, drinks and music were the easy parts. What had me in a panic was what to wear??? The bad selfie photos below show my attempt to make something in my closet work. Not only are both of these unattractive, but they weren’t even in keeping with my minimalist style. So, I hung it up and called Cherie.
Cherie worked as my personal stylist finding just the right outfit for the occasion. A few days before the party she went to Nordstroms and picked out 8 different dresses and came to my house. She kept the look minimalist because that’s what makes me feel most comfortable. I tried on the dresses and this green dress was the one! I don’t usually wear a lot of color, but Cherie nudged me toward wearing this green and it was perfect! It’s such an easy breezy, happy dress. I loved how I felt in it. Having an outfit that I knew looked good on me made all the difference at the party. I have to say that I received many compliments that evening!
Selfies of Jane’s attempt at making something work…
Why this doesn’t work: The top is adorable and is a great neckline for Jane, but the skirt is difficult to pull off even if you don’t have any hips! All of the gathered fabric is too much, it adds inches to the hip area.
Why this doesn’t work: The length of the lacey poncho is too close to the length of the dress, and the poncho is just too much fabric once again. You can’t find Jane in all that fabric!
Why this works: The color on Jane is stunning, it compliments her hair, eye and skin shade. The bright color and ruffle detail balance the shapeless style of the shift. Knowing what neckline and dress length look best on you is key to looking your best, and both are ideal for Jane. And, its just the perfect amount of fabric! The ruffles are fun, feminine and flirty – made for an evening cocktail party.
We paired the dress with a pair of kitten heel, nude sandals, which keeps the leg all one color and keeps the focus on the dress. The color of the dress screamed gold jewerly so we added a pair of gold vintage earrings and contemporary gold, pearl and rhinestone bangles for a little bling. When you feel comfortable in what you are wearing, it shows!
