The Nudge: Lions And Tigers And Bears, Oh My… When I saw this tiger embroidered faux suede jacket, I thought it was a bit over the top, but very cool at the same time. It is part of Bob Mackie’s “Wearable Art” collection. I volunteer as a stylist for Dress For Success, and all of our clothes are donated, but many are not appropriate for work attire, so when I saw this I just had to have it. I don’t own any Bob Mackie, but now I do…
If you don’t know who Bob Mackie is, you should. He began his legendary career in the early 60’s as a costume designer. As he likes to remind everyone, he is NOT a fashion designer, he is a costume designer. Either way, he is one of the most influential and prolific designers of the 20th century.
He is known for his elaborate, over the top, old Hollywood glamour attire, but he always stays within his style rules of “proportion, color and texture”. He has dressed some of the most famous stars, pretty much anyone that goes by one name, like Cher, Diana (as in Ross), Liza, Britney, Michael, Tina (as in Turner), Barbra, Madonna, Dolly, Whitney and Oprah. He also designed all of the costumes that were worn on the Carol Burnett show, which ran for years. And, if you like Barbie Dolls, you certainly know about his Barbie Collection. Currently he has a QVC line, called “Wearable Art”.
This post is in honor of you, Bob Mackie!
